Between the 25th and the 29th of October 2021, a group of students and teachers took part in a mobility in the context of this Erasmus+ project.
The project, helPing and Learning wiThout borderS, aims to involve participants in volunteer work and research projects under the PLTS framework (Personal Learning and Thinking Skills). By using innovative methodologies based on the latest discoveries in neuroscience, Project-Based Learning and Cooperative Learning, the students involved will develop essential skills such as proactivity, self-management, managing interpersonal relationships and managing their own learning.
The six partner schools involved in this project are from: Finland (Mäntsälä), Greece (Thessaloniki), Italy (Palermo), Poland (Sosnowiec), Portugal (Madeira) and Spain (Elche).
After a year of long-distance work and many online meetings, the participants were finally able to meet in person. The long-awaited meeting took place in the Italian city of Palermo, on the island of Sicily.
For five days, students and teachers had the opportunity to learn, to work collaboratively, to discover new cultures and new realities, to live unforgettable experiences. They met new people. They made friends for life.
In the opinion of everyone involved in the project, this type of experience is extremely important for the development of students, since, as European citizens, they have the opportunity to broaden their horizons, becoming aware, in a practical and more direct way, of the world in which they live and the cultural diversity that surrounds them. This way, they become richer human beings, more tolerant, more cultured, more experienced, more complete, more patient, more interesting. Even if it is short-lived, this kind of experience will help those who participate in it to get to know themselves better, to recognise their strengths and weaknesses, which, in turn, will help them overcome the obstacles they encounter along the way.
